Haltech, Haltech, Haltech!

Well, after setting a record for the slowest installation ever of a
Haltech engine management system it was a damn good feeling to have the
car start at the first twist of the key!
For those of you contemplating installing any aftermarket engine
management system it is a major effort.
I tried to arrange and fabricate as much stuff as I could in advance.
Still, it took me a week removing the old stuff, routing the new wires,
terminating over 30 wires (and this is just the basic installation.
There's lots more wires tucked away for future functions!)fabricating
the odd bracket and the never ending bullshit of tracking down the
correct contacts and miscellaneous parts.
Once everything was ready, I connected the computer and of course it
couldn't find the Haltech. Finally found the right comm port and input
the basic engine parameters. Disable the injectors, lock timing and
check for actual timing. Only needed a minor adjustment of 3 deg since
the system uses the stock Hall sender and distributor. Enable injectors
and there's nothing else to check, so twist the key and the son of a
bitch fires right up! Amazing! Of course it was running as rich as could
be, so I got my first opportunity to fiddle with the fuel maps.
The Haltech lets you enter an entire ignition map just by specifying
total advance, RPM for total advance, idle advance and vacuum advance,
so getting that in the ball park is butt simple. Tonight I will drive
around, adjust the fuel maps as required for any really bad running,
then datalog so I can adjust the fuel maps based on O2 sensor reading.
This is just too cool to be able to monitor everything going on with the
engine and to be able to change it to anything you want.
Unbelievable that I can't find anybody to help me tune this thing! Maybe
my abrasive personality has something to do with it??

Slowly closing in that turbocharger!
