Scirocco, RS3, RS4, Mclaren F1 sightings

He he he.
Got your attention didn't I :)

Just got back from a week vacation in England (wish it was longer).
When most people go on vacation, they take pictures of and are awed by the
People, Scenery, etc....
Not me....well not completely.
I got great pictures of Stonehenge (that was friggin awesome), The British
Museum (awesome also), Tower of London, London Bridge, Big Ben, Westminister
Abby, most of the countryside (lots of OLD buildings).
I also took a ride in the "London Eye", the worlds largest enclosed ferris
wheel
Rode around London in an open top double-decker bus in the rain without an
umbrella (soaked and happy).
Piloted my own 45' longboat through the locks and canals of England (Like
trying to drive a Peterbuilt with a trailor through a McDonalds drive thru).
Travelled 100's of miles on Englands trains, underground transit system (US
could learn a lot from this), and buses.
Took dozens of pic's of the Beautiful native girls :D

Ok on to the cars.....
All I can say is England should be the poster to the world for fuel
conservation and correct driving style (even though they drive on the wrong
side of the road)
Their system of round-abouts instead of traffic lights is also a stroke of
genius, no traffic jams and makes for great cornering practice.
The UK drivers are HANDS DOWN better than Americans as a whole (they are
agressive, attentive and very skilled without being bullyish = NO road rage)

Saw 3 Mk2 Scirocco's while I was there, two 8V's and one that was silver
with a black 16V bodykit (looked OEM).
No Mk1 Scirocco anywhere to be seen, and only two A1 Golfs. :(
I was suprised to see an A3 Golf wagon (estate).
Larger VW's (Golf, Jetta, etc...) were fairly rare but the Lupo and Polo
were plentiful. (The Polo GTI was pretty cool looking with it center exit
exhaust)

Also saw an RS4 pass the bus on the carriage way (yes, I am positive...saw
the badge on the back).
Took pic's of an S3, and saw (camera was in the bus) an RS3 (my first
thought was WTF?, do these really exist...badge on the back looked
authentic).
The A3 and the TT were all over the place. They seemed very popular along
with the Mazda MX-5 (miata).
England was mostly populated by small (in the US we might call micro) cars
from Peugeot, Citroen, Fiat, Skoda, Seat, and Ford Escort/Fiesta.

Saw a lot of Performance cars like:
Lotus Esprit and the ultra cool looking Lotus Elise (I want one!!!!!!!!!)
Aston Martin Vanquish and DB7
Only one Ferrari, a RHD (right hand drive) Modena
Mitsubishi Evo VI (WOW! they get those in England along with the Skyline
GT-R)
A few LHD Porsche 911
3 different TVR's (kinda like a British Corvette)

There were many Bizarre cars like:
Mercedes A-class (looks like a ML that got smooshed in the F/R)
Audi A2 (VERY bizarre, almost to the point of being very cool)
Fiat Multipla (ummmm......hard to describe but incredibly weird)
Ford Puma - Ok so this one is less weird and more "unique".
An electric car called the "Smart" car (about a 1ft shorter than a Mk1
Scirocco and 2ft taller).

Well 22 rolls of film and four 64mb vido cards later I'll have some pic's to
post soon :)
What a great trip....can't wait to go to Germany next year.

If you made it this far thanks for reading :^)

Cheers,
Randy
81 Scirocco S "Cosmos"
81 Scirocco S "Mars"
87 Jetta GLI "Olga"
Audi RS3 "SEX on Wheels" (if they ever import it, I'll rob a bank if I
have to to buy it).
