Jeff,

My opinion is if you are going to tear down the block then you should have
everything balanced. When I rebuilt my 2.0 bottom end I had this done at a
shop out here in the East Bay Area and it only cost about $200 if I remember
correctly. However, as you've touched upon, this lead to me doing much, much
more. New pistons, higher compression, P&P head, cams, springs, retainers,
etc., etc. But, the engine that I started with had over 100,000 miles on it,
so it needed to be rebuilt.

If I found one with only 20,000 miles on it like yours, I would have just
bolted a head on it and installed it.
