Re: engine vs california inspection

I sure is crazy out here in California. I can't say I know what it's like
everywhere, but I do know about a few places. I live in the SF Bay Area, and
all around there you need to pass a visual and tailpipe inspection every two
years. I know up in Sacramento they add something to make it even tougher.
They put every car up on rollers and perform the tailpipe test under load!
And up in the Tahoe area, near the Nevada Border, they don't require any
smog checks at all. Hmmm....Pristine waters and air up there. I guess the
State just wants us to F*** that up and doesn't care how much we pollute up
there until it's already messed up. That doesn't make much sense.

If you're considering a move, talk to someone in that area to find out what
they do to their cars to pass smog tests.

Oh, and there is no possible way you would pass a California smog test
anywhere in the state when running dual sidedraft carbs on your Scirocco.
The only way I can think of to get away with that is to have it in a car
that is older then 25 years old (no smog checks at that age!) or keep the
car registered out of state while you have it here.
