What's wrong with the starter?  If the solenoid is weak, disconnect the wire
that goes to the starter and jump it to the + battery terminal(make sure the
car is in park).  It's not too hard to spot, it's a fat Red/Black wire with
a yellow heat resistant covering, there's a connector up near the firewall,
it won't quite reach the battery, so you will need a jumper wire.  I don't
know if it's possible to push start an automatic.  I know the old Beetles
with the automatic could be pull started at speeds above 30mph(says so in
the Bentley).  But that transmission isn't the same as those used in the
newer cars, it was basically a manual with a torque converter.

The starter is a pain in the butt to change in an automatic.  I do most all
of the work on my cars, but that's one job I'd gladly pay someone else to
do.
