Yep, some braintrust (I don't know if it was an ignorant previous
owner, or a really sloppy mechanic) put in a bolt that was not long
enough to make it to the back end of the bottom bracket, so the front
part of the bracket was supporting all the weight. I had no idea of
any of this until the belt started squealing last night. I went to
adjust the tension arm, and the alternator just lifted off the
mounting bracket that was suppose to be part of the alternator
casing! Now I am eyeing the alternator on the 91 Fox, and seriously
thinking about trying to put it on the Scirocco, since the Fox really
shouldn't be driven anyway.







The goal is to overcome the deliberate nature of the process.
