Re: winter/ warming up/Scirocco

Larry,
I don't know why they would advice to immediately drive a car without
allowing it to 'warm up'....maybe a fuel economy or pollution thing.
In MT/CO -20* weather I usually let the car warm up (1-3min.) so that as a
driver I could function without shivvering.
In CA 85* weather I still let the car warm up (15-30 sec.) but for the
engines sake.
Moniter oil pressure, listen to engine, and allow engine temps to rise a
little.

My old Cosmos 81 Scirocco S had a JH motor in it with over 250Kmi (350K+ on
chassis) and it dyno'd at 95hp to the wheels before it was yanked for
restoration.
She was AutoX'd, Roadcoursed, driven to CO, AK, AZ....the complete engine is
now still running strongly in another friends Mars 81 Scirocco S.

Wrong to let an engine warm up?....Dunno but this is the way I've always
done it and all of my engines have lasted a long healthy life. (except the
Rabbit diesel my father killed...another story).
