RE: 16V with no power steering pump (the truth)

Scott-
I looked into this two years ago when I got my 'roc and didn't care for the
power steering. The consensus then was that a restrictor would just
increase effort without reducing the "damping" effect of the power setup. I
was advised to replace the power with manual steering if I wanted the
"feel".
I've since come to appreciate the quick response of the power steering, and
accept the less-than-ideal tactile aspects.
We just need someone to make a manual rack with the ratio of the power
unit!! (but, then, you'd better have some big arms!) No free lunch, and
all that...

Thanks for clearing this up, Warren. I've often wondered how this would
feel. The manual rack ratio is too damned slow but offers great feedback.
the power rack ratio is great, but the feeling is numb.

What *is* the best compromise, I wonder? Perhaps some sort of restrictor
could be installed to cut the flow through the lines?
