Actually, AFAIK removing ANY factory-installed emissions equipment is
technically illegal, even if other cars of the same model/year weren't
equipped with them. Granted, if SC has inspections, they might not know to
look for it...

Either way, it would seem we're splitting legal hairs to no real benefit. We
all know a good CAT has little or no performance decrease, right? If the CAT
is bad and money is the issue, we all know you can still pass most
inspections with a missing or gutted CAT, right? So, what is the goal here?
If you want to be legal, you can't remove it. If you don't care, do whatever
you want!
