Paint primer questions....

Here's the deal. As many of you already know, I have a 79 Scirocco that
ive sandblasted to the bare metal. Im about to start the body work and
paint and wondered if anybody knew something about primers. 

Im looking at a primer that etches the metal. its recommended by a
supplier to my shop but he really doesn't know much about it other than
he will give me a gallon of the stuff. Anyone with real world working
knowledge have more info as to what it does? 

Sandable?

Do I need to paint a second non-etching primer over the etching primer
before I Paint? 

What type of paint do I use over that or is that based on what the primer
is made from?

I just got back from the Pro Solo at Atwater and am more encouraged to
get the MK-I built and ready to race. SOON! The MK-II, although fast, is
only 80% of what I need to be competitive in the class. Especially if I
go to Nationals anytime soon.
