Re: Need some eval help on a Mk2 16v

I had the left right linkage joint pop out on my car once .. it left only
3&4 usable since you could only push back and forth .. no sideways movement.

I ran my first car onto a curb in the winter, smashed the hell out of the
wheel, A-arm, fender. Replaced the A-arm, wheel, banged the fender back as
well as could be... never noticed a frame problem. I hit the curb going
~30mph. Stand back a bit from the car, from the front and side and see if
things look straight, look at the gaps between lights and fender/hood to see
if they look even. Pop the hood and look for any stress marks or cracks in
the metal.

Why must it be the trans that's broken? More likely the linkage is off
spec.

- Linkage/shifter plate alignment in car.
- Linkage under car in eng. bay bent.
- Motor mounts have shifted engine out of alignment.

It got driven into a snow bank? Might the impact have shifted things?
Perhaps even the driver mashing on the shifter itself could have slammed
it over enough to mess it up, try and look under the shift boot for the
two little holes there supposed to line up with the tunnel it/s bolted
to.
