Yes, I had this very thought: I have the donor A2 GTI to work with. The
consensus I got back was they wouldn't fit, that in order to use the
later 100 mm CVs i had to go with Scirocco 16v Hubs.

I'd love to hear something else. I also wonder where the trade off is
between benefit and unsprung weight.
