Engine question for those experts :)

Title: Engine question for those experts :)

The ongoing saga of trying to rebuild my '82 in the back yard....

Engine swap is going to be a 2L 8V (decided to forgo the hassle of wiring in a 16V).

3A (Audi) engine was what I thought would be best, but so far all the engines I have come across have good miles on them.

VW 2L's are readily available here fairly cheap (ie: '99 model 2L with very low miles <5K).

From looking at it, I would say the lower mileage VW 2L is better than the Audi, but any opinions here?  Is the Audi engine actually superior to the VW's or was the 3A engine a good choice simply because they were more readily available in the past?

From where I stand now, it would cost me more to rebuild the 3A engine, then grab a very low mileage VW 2L short block and drop a nice used 1.8 head on it.

Anyone want to jump in and give me some oppinions on either engine...

Thanks
