Title: RE: mkII sunroof drooping...

Sounds like you did "jump gears"

Happens all the time on sunroofs, especially if someone has put in a stupid Audi crank like they did on mine (no lock build in).

When you skip the gears you no longer are actually closing the roof fully when the crank is in the closed position.

With the old Audi crank it was an easy fix.  Close the sunroof (looking from the outside to ensure it was sealing correctly), unscrew the handle and put the handle back into the closed position and re-attach it. :)

Speaking of this,   anyone have a good handle and gear set under it then can sell real cheap ?

Subject: mkII sunroof drooping...

folks,

for some odd reason my sunroof doesn't close/seat properly anymore. when
the crank is in the neutral position, the driver side rear portion of the
sunroof seats below the roofline of the car.

i went through the bentley, made the proper adjustments and while it seemed
like it worked, what i found was that 1. the liner that has the spring
hooked onto it makes the sunroof sag some 2. the seating varies depending
on how the sunroof was opened/closed - i.e. if i open it up all the way
such that it slides back and then close it, it droops - if i open it so
that the rear angles up like a vent and close it, it'll seat semi-properly.
3. the neutral position varies depending on how i open/close the sunroof
(see #2 above).

i seem to recall once i was cranking the sunroof closed and i heard a
snap/crackle/pop and skip while i was cranking (like it jumped a gear or
something) then it was ok.

the only other things i can think of are to completely remove the sunroof
and examine the cable/crank mechanism. visual inspection shows that the
parts look fine.

finally, question about the front adjusting screws. i have it fully turned
to push the front of the sunroof up and it _still_ is a 1/16" below flush..
any ideas?

thanks
dave
