They go on the bottom of the shifter, in the clevis bolt that holds the
shifter to the shift rod.

You pop the cover plate off underneath the car to get to them.

They'll help the side to side movement, if it is still bad, you'll need a
new shift plate.

I also installed the TSR kit in my GTI and it's a big improvement.
