  scoop the poop. it's a very easy thing to do (at least on a manual).
you simply have to remove the one or two power lines going to the
starter. after that, remove the two bolts holding the starter in (note:
one will have a nut. the other is threaded and attached to the motor
mount). remove the old starter, replace with the new. last thing to hook
back up are the power wires. doesn't take more than 15 minutes or so. i
can't imagine that an auto trans would be that much more difficult,
though i'd love to buy a mk2 with an auto to find out :)
