The O2 sensor doens't need a cat.
OTOH if there is an O2 sensor before and after the cat then the Motronic
may require the cat to work correctly. i.e it would be looking for
certain values from the after-cat O2 sensor and would generate warnings
when it didn't get them.
Summary, if there's only one O2 sensor you can blow off the cat. Two
sensors, you would need it.
