Re: Max RPM

Listers;

What I'm really trying to figure out is not how to make it a monster, but
how to make it survive being a monster. So things like stiffer valve
springs and stronger head bolts are what I'm after. - you know, the
reinforcements that have little to nothing to do with actual horsepower. I
just don't want to design and build a motor for 9 or 10k and then be told,
"oh, the cam chain will blow in a week at that RPM, everybody knows that".
Basically I think I can move the RPM band pretty darn far up, so how far
"should" I (assuming I can survive the Honda comments y'all are bound to
make:)? (e.g. our racing motor at school is still headed up the power curve
at 12,000rpm, but we haven't taken it above that because we know it must
have some mechanical limit.

Hey, Shawn, quit calling me Brain. :) ...and thanks for the input.
Actually, it IS the persnickety details I'm looking for, not the generals
that we always talk about. Persnickety ones that deal with high speed
toughness, anyway.

Sincerely (and still fishing for more of the same stuff);
Brian

PS: Thanks Patrick - that's what I need.
