Rabbit/Jetta tanks should fit fine.  

About 3 years ago I purchased an aftermarket tank for my 83 Jetta for just
shy of $200 CDN, and I believe that they are still available.  If you have
no luck from your local auto parts store, try a shop that repairs/replaces
gas tanks and/or rads - that's where I found mine.

What is it with morons putting screws into gas tanks anyways?  The
unfortunate thing is that the gas tank didn't explode and launch the
idiot PO into orbit - at least that way there's less chance of spreading
the "driving screws into gas tanks" gene.
