I mouted mine "all the way inside the knob"...

I had a large anatomical MOMO knob on my '84 Scirocco, and it would work
it's way loose, almost weekly...

When I installed a MOMO knob on my '79, I put a drop of loctite on the
inside of each set screw,
after I backed them out a little, so that the loctite would get to all
the threads.
It's been on there for 6 weeks with no problems...
