    i fitted the mk2 16V instrument cluster and dash into my mk1.

    i can tell you that it was a BITCH to do.  maybe it might be easier to
do with a mk1 dash, but i can't say for sure.  as brian honnold says, you'll
need to cut a bunch of holes in the steering column support so as to fit the
speedo cable, and the rear of the instrument cluster.

    i also cut out parts of the instrument cluster to help fit it all into
place.

    respect your dremel.  it is your friend.
