coolant loss

List,

Thanks to all of you who responded with advice on my problem with coolant loss.
Thankfully, as it turned out, it was only a small leak in the radiator webbing
- the hole was so small that escaping coolant evaporated immediately and was
difficult to spot. The hole was welded but after some time the leak sprang again
- As a result I decided to change the entire the entire radiator webbing (costs
me a bit!) - The radiator is made of copper whereas stock rocco radiators are
aluminium.

In a country where the general atmosphere temp is 33 deg C, I now run the
following:

- normal town running: 90 deg F
- highway running at around 50mph to 60mph: 100deg F
- highway running anything higher than 60mph: the temp increases above 100deg F
the faster I go.

I read somewhere (I think in the Haynes manual) that the normal operating temp
as specified by Vw is 98 deg F - does anyone know if that is correct - I know a
lot of you out there run at temperatures much higher.

I have always had some cooling problems with the car since I first bought it 1
year ago - for the first time it now all works properly and I took it up to
about 130 kph - however the rpm at this speed is about 4300 which I think is
excessive. I am now desperate to get the .75 5th gear conversion kit ( I run
the FM gearbox) - Potterman only had half the kit in stock - so I suppose I now
have to go to Autotech direct - does anyone know somebody at Autotech and be
kind enough to call them to see if they would be willing to courier the kit by
air to Singapore? thanks a lot

James
