I do this regularly (at work) using a Cylinder Pressure Leakdown Tester.
it does the same thing as Dave's device mentioned above, just fancier. It
pressurizes the cylinder, keeps the valves held shut. Just be sure to do
it at TDC you wont have any problems in the event you lose air, the valve
will only drop a little way in. trust me, you don't want to drop a valve
into the cylinder.
