Nah...stay away from petroleum based stuff, may soften
the rubber.  Use Permatex #2 (non-hardening), it's the
brown goopy (non-RTV) stuff, same as I use on gaskets
(when I use anything). BTDT, works!

I also understand that if you smear it on exhaust
pipes, where they join, it prevents them from rusting
together and allows future disassembly.  Ain't tried
that one yet.
