brake line installation

In the midst of a major brake overhaul for my 87 16V, including stainless 
brake lines.  Now the 4 going to the calipers are easy.  My question is how 
to get the 2 under the car by the rear axle.  I only glanced toingiht, but 
it looks like it is impossible to get some open ends in there to remove the 
old one and hook up the new line.  Any hints or solutions to my problem?
