Re: 16v conversion not worth it? Scirocco too slow?

I don't think that you want to beat him in curves, turbo your 16v, put the
motor in the back, etc. I think you are just getting cold feet and your
buddy that has a 5.0 wants to mess with you because he is getting worried
that you might be faster when all is said and done. As far as the power of
a 2.0L 16v in an A1 car, I have a 2.0L 16v with the AGB tranny in my Rabbit
and it hasn't been beat on the street yet. Took 3rd at the NIRA Nationals
last year at SIR (on street tires, and they only pay for 1st and 2nd
EEERRRR!!). And the kind of cars that I have raced are VERY varied meaning:
Taurus SHO, Turbo Probe, Honda SI, Acura V6, Mustang 5.0, Integras, Mirages,
etc. etc. Everything that has tried to race me I have blown away. The
closest race was the Acura V6 because he had some mods and he raced me
twice!! (but lost twice too!!) And a Ford Torino all jacked up sounding hot.
We raced two blocks and got to about 70 then skidded through the red light
on the other end (stupid I know but wasn't gonna let that thing beat me!!
besides it was 1am and nobody was around). So it isn't JUST the motor
(although your setup sounds like it will be nice!!), it is the driving and
the car. You can lighten your car up a tad by installing euro bumpers,
pulling stuff from inside the car that you don't need (my back seat is
gone!) and general lightenning hear and there (A/C bracket, etc.--a popular
autocross saying is: You take care of the ounces, the pounds will take care
of themselves!). Depending on what year this guys 5.0L is and what mods he
has done, you will probably take him!! The newer ones aren't as fast as the
older ones!! HTH!!
