[TECH] Brake line (not brake hose) replacement

Although this applies to 1978 brake lines, the answer
to my question (to come) could apply to any Scirocco.
===================
As some of you may know, I've been doing a low level
restoration on Spoon (1978 Scirocco). This car has had
leaks into the interior in the past (windshield and/or
rain tray seals), as a result moisture collected under
the front carpets in that spongy material under the
carpet. I finished POR-15'ing the passenger side
recently and this weekend the driver's side was "up".

The "sponge" under the carpet was quite wet, depsite
the fact that this car has not seen rain for at least
two months! The fact that the sponge stuff is covered
by a layer of hard plastic probably helped retain the
moisture. Despite this I found that the rust was not
as bad as the passenger side.

Here's the shite fookin news: The brake line (which
runs through the interior on 1974-1980 Sciroccos) was
rusted. I hoped that it was just surface rust which I
could chemically stop but my hopes were shattered when
I started flaking off some of the surface rust and
this fluid started leaking out of the brake line.

This was followed by some creative pleasantries
spewing from my mouth . . .

I look at the Bentley, which said the dealer sells
replacements (skeptical I am, can't be). On to the
Etka - the lines are shown in the diagrams, but no
part #. F*ck. Wait, there is a part #, it's for # 111
611 998 - "brake line in rolls of 5mm"

Apparently VW expects you to cut and bend it to fit.
OK, I can do this, but what about the ends? They have
to be flared, don't they?
***************************
Finally, my question: does anyone on this list have
experience replacing "hard" brake line? Is there a
tool that will "flare" the ends once you cur the line
to length?

Thanks in advance!

Now, I'm gonna go move the '78 out of the garage ans
allow it to hibernate until I can fix this . . .
