[Social GTG] The Cheapasses Go To The Big City

So there we were, my darling and I, evaluating Connecticut as a
potential place to live (may get transferred there). While driving
down I-95, I get the idea to give Brian McGarvey, newly in NYC, a call
(he's in my cell phone quick dial list), and whaddya know, the next
afternoon ole Cheapass (aka "Scared Shitless of NYC") and Mrs. Cheapass
(aka "I just have to go the the City") board a train and show up in the
Casa McGarvey on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

Cool to have Big Mac give us the grand tour, and to catch up with Scott
Williams at Grand Central Station and find a good NY samwidge
(fa-riggin' HUGE reuben). (BTW Scottie, Mrs. Cheapass thought you were
soooo cute!! "He's just adorable" [barf]). Too bad we didn't have more
time, but it was cool while it lasted. Also too bad Jan Folkson
couldn't meet up with us, but hey, new baby and all...and to other NYC
listers, sorry, but this was a spur of the moment thang.

When two car nerds get together, see what happens?

I'm doing the "V" over Brian's melon, and he's doing the "W" over
mine...get it? V...W? VW? (Brian's idea).

Off to see the the lighting of the Christmas tree, where Brian shows
feats of superhuman strength

so my darling can watch the goin's on. What a guy. Oh Brian, she said
you were a "very handsome man, just a big cuddly teddy bear. And so
strong!" [barf]

Back to Casa McGarvey, and Brian I told you and now I tell the world,
you're overachieveing, dude.

Did you catch the Today Show on Thursday morning? There we were, Brian
and the Cheapasses, behind weatherman Al Roker, all smiles and mugging
for the cameras.

Back to Grand Central, Mr. McGarvey sees us to our coach (he must know
my sense of direction), and back to CT then home to Cincy. Manhattan
about a bazillion times better than I expected, no mugggings, no gangs,
few bums, free chocolate, even civil cabbies. And great company.
Thanks Brian, you're a wonderful host and guide, and mi casa, su casa.

Great whirlwind tour, great company, what a great bunch of folks on the
list! Now I get to remind my wife that her dream of NYC was all due to
my damned car fixations and youse guys and goils on this list!
