Which classes? Keep in mind that the fast cars in ASP, BSP, and CSP aren't
legal cars in SM! Well, the CSP-winning RX-3 is a legal SM car, but rotaries
in SM are required to weigh LOTS more than that car did, which would kill
it's chances. The rest of CSP - CRXs and Miatas - are not legal. They also
only beat SM by 1.2 seconds, which is a lot less than two (but still a ways
behind). Heck, I'm surprised they were that close!

The only car out of A/B/CSP that would make a legal SM car is Bob Tunnell's
BMW M3, 2nd place in BSP. Bob was about .6sec ahead of the winning SM time.
Patty actually used to drive the BSP-legal car in SM too, just to kick
everyone's arses! IMHO, they're both autocross GODS, and would be fast in a
Geo Metro.

The people on the SM mailing list were actually pretty excited to finally
beat the classes that they *should* beat, which would be D/E/FSP. I think
you're right though: a lot of SM cars currently running were built as street
or drag racers, and haven't been built to the class limits yet. Now that
we'll have an official set of rules this year, you will start seeing the
times drop...
