For a battery to charge it should be at least 1.5v higher in charge voltage 
than normal. Therefore about 14 volts is what you would expect.

As for the die off? Check the injector seals and O rings on the back of the 
engine. Once done, reset the air/fuel for minimum flow with the engine off 
(stopped). When the engine is started it will lift the plate and allow fuel 
to flow.

But then again, I bought my cars from Fred Flintstone...
