Re: 82 jetta radiator in a 84 scirocco



Personally, I think you're assuming the thermostat slams open and dump a
bunch of cold water into the engine. I'd bet it opens gradually over a small
temp range. ie. at 175, .1" open; at 180, .3" open..etc..making the spikes
of water temp just after the thermostat much less drastic than you assert.
Quite frankly, if things aren't a little more gradual than you suspect then
engines would have a hell of a time in sub-zero weather.
