The '83 GTI came with a 2H...

The magazine Vw & Porsche, now European Car, published a chart with all
the 020 gear ratios.
It has the 2H as a 3.94:1, and the 4K as a 3.89:1, but I think it's a
mistake...

3.89 and 3.94 are pretty close, close enough that they use the same white
plastic speedo gear.

The 4K is the best transaxle for a 16V... 
At highway cruising speed, 75-80MPH, you are at the beginning of the
powerband.
