Volksfest 10th anniversary event last sunday in Ottawa

Well I know this is not a judged event nor a "watercooled event" but it was
MY first ever VW event so I know my impressions written below are young
immature and I will probably get over it when I goto the Toronto Bug off in
2 weeks. but non the less here is my write up on the event

8am half of the people that said that where going to come met on time at the
apoint departure area.
9am 22 cars on the road, crazy VW folks driving all over the road,
crisscrossing each other at more and more increasing speeds above speed
llimit... (sucks to have a stock 8v some times.)
9.30 am reach road construction area (80KMH zone 1 lane) ... Urrrggh , the
sucky 8v got me stuck behind 2 trailer dudes on vacation with bike rack and
shit driving... 60...
10 am finally get out of the 14 KM ork area.... buddies in fast cars.... way
gone...
1030am 10 km to go.... driving 140KHM.....
1031am 1975 orange beetle with a 1481cc/headers (talked to the owner
onsite..) blows by me... buddy in 16 v gives chase
1045am top speed of bettle established at 160KHM (100MPH) by 16v and lets me
catch up (grin) " thanks Joel for checking on that dudes beetle...."

11am arrive onsite... get in... park car and shine it a bit...

Overall it was truly a BUG event, but finding the watercooled folks (spread
out between 3 areas) there was some sweet corrado's Scirocco and Rabbits on
site none the less.

2PM some lady with an 86 rocco, tracks me down near my car and starts asking
a bizillion questions on my restoration project... (just about the only
person out of 30 people that actally stopped to look at my car) ... then she
drags me and "joel" to her car and we start chatting shop..
being cluess does not even begin to explain "her car problems" after giving
her a short list of things to be done... she sighs and says , (gotta love
women with flair for drama) "it will never look as good as yours.".. .. of
course I can't resist and suggest to her (pretty thing she was) that I take
her for a ride in a back road (get your mind out of the gutter... yeah you!)
and I find 1 mile away a long slow winding road between fields and I turn
the beginning of the road and turn the radio on, and NAIL IT!.... I know I
have been bitching about my car's engine ... but for some reason...
beatrice... yeah its the cars name... just decided to play ... and did she
ever.... run through the gears, 5K shifting... 90MPH in fourth..... still
wants more... 100.... 110MPH the lady next to me was just estatic about it
all... and after about 10 mile ride... (gawd I love those backroads..) I
turn around and did it the opposite way back to town.... when we got back to
the site, she came out of the car and had that twinkle... you know that one
you got when y rode the car for the real first time.... vw bug I call it....
well she grinned... and winked....and said" Time to find a real mechanic for
my baby..." we exchanged email addresses and she was gone...

Yeah... My first event.... I had good time.... can't wait for the next
one....

Return trip was calm going... hot day... 97'F/44'c that day, not a cloud in
site.... we cooked.. well I didn't... I don't mind loosing 10HP... I got
A/C...
post mortem : 1 jetta and 1 Scirocco blew head gaskets (buddies) on their
cars.... they got towed back together to Montreal ...
