If you want a car with an automatic for less than $2000 a VW wouldn't be the
best choice.  Most VWs in that price range have the 3 speed auto.  The 3
speed auto's are slow, don't even try passing on a 2 lane road, and they get
crappy gas mileage, I know...I own a Rabbit with an auto.  If you can afford
to spend a little more, try to find a Corrado G60 with the 4 speed
automatic.  My Corrado is basically stock right now and I've beat a stock
16v Scirocco in a stoplight race.  Although the Corrado isn't as fun to
drive around corners as the Rabbit is.
