The golf CIS system looks like any other CIS system (although they moved most of the components over to the passenger side of the car.  Do you have a fuel distributor with a braided line going to each injector?  If, its CIS.  
Do you have a single fuel rail running along the intake manifold, with the injectors plugged into it and do the injectors have electrical connections?  If so, you have digifant. 

I don't recall when the 8v golf cut over to digifant.  The '86 Jetta was CIS and the '89 Digifant.

Digifant seems to be reliable, unless you have a bad ground connection to the starter and fry the $500 computer module!
