I've been told that the South African golf is in fact subtly different to 
the original in that, although the mechanicals and basic chassis are the 
same, most of the body panels are in fact slightly different and don't fit a 
standard MKI golf/rabbit. Doesn't make sense, but that's what I've been 
told.
