This sounds like the "basic Rabbit" they were selling in '82, just so VW could say they had a low price car.  It had a carb, the rear seat didn't fold, and it was missing a lot of other features that I can't remember right now.  I think it was about $2000-3000 cheaper than the typical Rabbit L on the lot, which went for around $9000.  I know of  scrap metal dealer that will pay $15 for it!
