For the U.S., the 1715 cc motor used on 1981, 1982 and
early 1983 Sciroccos is the same block as the 1588cc
block. The 1.6 "family" of motors (the 1457cc (1978
only), 1588cc (FI 1976.5-77,FI 1979-1980), and 1715cc
(1981-1983)) all use the same cylinder head, that's
why the 1457cc motor in my wife's '78 is stamped "1.6"

Basically, the 1.5 version of this is "de-stroked" and
the 1.7 is a "stroker" (longer piston stroke).
