8v Top Speed Question (different than the usual)

Well, I had a chance to get the 'Rocco moving pretty fast for an 8v I am
assuming. The car is:

'84 Wolfsburg Edition
Stock GX engine w/ unknown miles (pretty high I am assuming)
Nasty toilet bowl exhaust manifold
Few engine mods are: Jamex airfilter
Chunk taken out of airbox on driver fender side
(no swiss cheese, but a 4" by 3" or so hole)
No warm air intake...just have a piece of dryer
duct that runs to the small area next to radiator
Full throttle switch on (not that it would make a
difference...is a temporary fix for cold start)
Removed A/C
Had a passenger w/ some luggage
4k transmission
185/60/14 tires on Teardrop rims
Pretty chilly weather outside (from Wisconsin so maybe it was cold?:) )

Ok, so the GX engine is suppose to be weak. The top speed of the JH (so it
says is some car magazines) is around 108. I had my car up to around 117
mph and I know there may be some speedo error, but judging by the tach it
seems very accurate. The car was very smooth and quiet until about 105 and
then got loud near the front (assuming it is the toilet bowl restricting
exhaust).
So what I wondering is if I changed the manifold, do you think it would be
possible to max it out at 122 (used the gear ratio calculator...124 with
185/70/13) which would be redline (6250) for the 4k tranny?
Also does the GX have a higher top end?
It didn't accelerate uphill, just maintained speed...might have been able to
go faster but decided to slow down. Now I know having a high top speed
shouldn't matter, but it would be a nice thing to have "just in case". :)
You can look at pics of engine on my website to see the fancy ram air
system...hoping to update it soon with pics of my other cars.
