Leaking hatch

Folks,

The 16v I purchased has a problem with a leaky hatch.  The previous owner
attempted to resolve the situation by getting another rear hatch seal from a
junkyard.  The seal itself looks like it is in good condition.

So water is coming into the back and onto the floor.  What could be the
causes of such a situation?
