I just did this by accident.  (put mkII rubber on my mkI doors)  Problem
found:  too much rubber and the doors won't close without an ass of pressure
put on them.  I left mine closed for 2 weeks hoping the seals would "smash"
with the pressure.  No luck.
But I can say that they never leaked!
