Actually '79 was the last year for the internal brake lines.
This is another reason why the '80 and '81 Scirocco are the ones to get.
'80 is the best if you want total freedom with exhaust options. In
Pennsylvania the treadmill emission test and cat is mandatory on '81 and
up cars.
