p.o.(s.) rant

well, you see, i bought this car of mr. yeagley about a month ago.
while technically he is the previous owner, he did VERY little to the
car, so the previous owner will be the one from which daun bought the
car.
as most previously owned car come, it's not in too bad of shape.
little here, little there. some things missing (the usual and not so
usual), tired seats, etc. however it seems as if there was a little more
to this wannabie mechanic. first thing noticed was an extra radio
harness in the car, to the left of the steering wheel. the best part was
that it was wired not to a radio but to a car alarm. a wire from there
ran the length of the car to the trunk light(!) underneath the door sill
which was screwed down! other than that, the interior is in as expected
shape. the exterior is in need of a paint job and a full dings pulled
out, but nothing bad. the engine sounds real good, though the downpipe
needs replaced. the transmission appears fine, but the clutch...ah, the
clutch.
after finally getting the transmission off (a couple of hours) we
finally arrived at the clutch about 12:30a. had you heard the car
before, there was a hell of a racket coming from up there. figured it'd
be the clutch disc. wrong. metal part of the disc looked brand new. the
pads look tired (the thing will be replaced) but it was in decent shape.
no, the problem lied with the pressure plate. apparently mr. non-hick,
blind as hell wanna-be mechanic decided that pretty tight was tight
enough for the six bolts in the pressure plate. turns outs that only one
was tight and four others were in their proper holes. one was just lying
there on the bottom. they're all stripped and will have to be replaced
and the holes for the pressure plate are now oval instead of round.
(quick question, should locktite be used when putting these bolts back
in?) thankfully daun threw in a clutch assembly with the car so now the
only thing i'm left to buy is the clutch disc and bolts. still, it's a
hell of a mess that could've been avoided if only the p.o. had taken his
time. thanx for the ranting space.
