I use a strange technique when removing a transmission that some may find
helpful. I lay under the car (secured buy stands!!!) with my head toward
the drivers side and position my knees so they're just under the bell. I
pull, cuss, kick, and rotate the trans until it drops that few inches to
my legs. I straighten my legs and slide it off to my side (toward the
rear of the car) and get out from under the car and do a little victory
dance while I smoke a Camel. It works for me to use this approach for the
installation as well. It may not be right for everyone though, the
transmission weighs like 80lbs and it hurts like hell if you drop it on
your arm. BTDT!

Double check the bolts that hold the splash shield to the bell housing.
The one above the right side output flange is easy to miss.
