16V Rough Idle/Poor Performance

hello, everyone...

i'm getting very poor performance out of my 16v.  idle is very rough @ 
statup.  i'd have to let it sit and warm up for a while until it settles 
down.  otherwise... it just cuts off as soon as i step on the gas.  then 
after it gets warmed up... the car sometimes bogs down or hesistates when 
changing gears.  or there is no throttle response.  i've noticed also that 
sometimes there is a brief lag at around 3500rpm.  anyway, this does not only 
happen in the morning.  the car could be sitting for just a couple of hours 
and i'll experience the same thing.  any suggestions is appreciated...
