Fuel, air and spark. That's what it's always always about. Get them together
in the right mix and you've got a smooth running engine.

Going from this vague description it is probably one of only a dozen or so
things. :) I'm going to assume you have a Bentley manual and don't need to
have the exact testing procdure listed. I'll probably mention a few things
that don't break very often....but sometimes when it's really hard to find...

Replace the orings and seats for your fuel injectors. (this is very likely the
source of some of your problems). Have the fuel injectors cleaned while
they're out if you're feeling energetic.

Check for vacuum leaks in general.

Check your wires by spraying a fine mist of water on them in the dark. If
you see tiny little sparks / arcing then they need to be replaced. If they
pass then 'ohm' them out.

Check your coil.

Check your in tank transfer pump for operation. Check the voltage at your main
fuel pump.

Check the operation of your Idle Stabilizer Valve (ISV), and clean it with carb
cleaner.

Replace the cap and rotor with Bosch units...yes it does matter.

Look at the Hall sender carefully...check for fine wire breaks and shorting around
the connector.

Replace the fuel filter.

Check your mixture with a current meter on the DPR (Differential Pressure Regulator).

Check the operation of your coolent temperature sensor.

Check the operation of your thermotime switch.

I bet one of these things is broken / out-of-whack. Hope I didn't miss anything...

Good luck!
