RoadStar, ND Show, Get a Talkabout Radio!!!!!!

All Sciroccos should have a TalkAbout onboard. If you have never seen one
you can go
to this web page:

***GET THE ONES THAT HAVE Channels 14 AND Privacy Codes 38 ***
The Motorola TalkAbout 250 2-Way Radio has a price between $50 and $100+ per
radio.
You can use other models too. You don't need all the features and they all
work the same.
Check E Bay for deals.

TalkAbout Radios are great for groups of Scirocco drivers to keep in touch
over short distances.
They're Motorola's two-way communication hand held radio.
Motorola's TalkAbout Radios are made small and light to fit in a MK1 door
pocket or seat belt.
TalkAbout Radios are great for Scirocco trips, outdoor and leisure
activities and car clubs.
You'll enjoy caravans all a whole lot more when you are not lost. The radio
is like a 2 mile range cell phone
with no phone bill. A cell phone is better but 100s of folks can use a
TalkAbout to keep in communication
on the road. Don't get lost and make others wait for you, use the radio. We
use them all the time.

a choice of 14 channels and 38 subchannels,
a total of 532 possible frequencies. That means you're likely to find a free
band even if all your neighbors that drive
Hondas hop on the airwaves. We use CHANNEL 5 sub 5.

 Talk About a Great Radio!

Reviewer: Doug Teulie, Scirocco Driver (and Passat.)

Do you remember the CB walkie talkies that you had a few years back
on the New Dimensions trip, this radio is nothing like that.
The TalkAbout 250 is a high quality 2 way radio made by Motorola.
The TalkAbout looks of a toy, especially in yellow, but once you try it out,
you will quickly realize that it is no toy. All of the TalkAbout models
operate on the FRS
which has about a 2 mile range, and works well inside and outside of
buildings as well as inside of vehicles
like Sciroccos and Passats.
When I first was interested in purchasing this unit, my wife, Kathy, thought
it was just
another electronic gimmick. But after using it on a road trip she changed
her mind,
this was no longer a gimmick, but a requirement for roadtrips and Auto-x
events.

I think that the radio itself could use some design improvements,
like the placement of the "Push to talk" button. If you clip the radio to
your
shoulder strap it works good. You should hold the radio about 9 inches from
your
mouth when transmitting a message. If Shawn Vrooooms his motor in a tunnel
you
may not hear the radio and you can't use the radio in Nate's car at all. But
most of the time it works great. If you have an exhaust on your car like a
TT
the radio will work great. Shawn has two Talkabouts and if he sets the
channel correctly
he has no trouble using it. The Radio works!!
I was originally going to get the 280, but the 280 is expensive and I just
got a MK1
so I needed to save some money for a new motor.

There is a better radio available from Motorola called the "TalkAbout
Distance", which is much more expensive,
and requires a license to use. The TalkAbout 250 is not the top of the line
TalkAbout, but will be great for most drivers needs.

There are cheaper models available from other manufacturers, but after
shopping around it appears
that the TalkAbout is the most robust unit with the most accessories
available.
