Absolutely.  The manifold & a good 2" exhaust is probably
the first thing you should do.  You won't get as much out
of any other mods until you free up the exhaust some.  I've
got the dual pipe on my '85 but still the stock exhaust,
something I intend to remedy sometime.  Waaay down the
priority list at the moment though.
