Oh yeah, and no major service.

Exactly.... "major service"

I'm thinking of all the little crap that goes wrong with these cars that
other cars don't seem to need - stuff like injector orings, leaking
distributor oil seals, that little o-ring on the idle speed adjusting screw,
shitloads of electrical problems (never heard of a Toyota that needed
auxiliary ground cables), fan thermoswitches, oil pressure switches, seizing
rear calipers, leaking fuel tanks, dead fuel pumps, steering column bearings
falling out, etc etc (I could go on for days)

I'm not saying VW's are absolute junk - I've owned an awful lot of them, if
I thought they were junk I would've stopped after one or two. They are fun
little cars (or trucks). I simply do not believe they make good reliable
daily drivers, I would not count on one. I am also not saying that all
other cars are without their own problems, it just seems that other brands
don't have as many (well, not counting Ford ;))

I'm done with this subject

John

lotsa stuff
