Prestone makes an orange silicate / phosphate free
antifreeze.  $6 a gal @ Wal Mart.  It has the same
properties (phos/sil. free) as the Autobahn, costs
less, but of course, isn't VW so isn't as good.  The
main issue with VW coolant is the aluminum cylinder
heads.  The phosphates in standard coolants can cause
corrosion and pitting of the heads, and premature
leaking and failure.  It is VERY predominant in the
Vanagons (head failure every 100Kmi on the dot).
